This past weekend we loaded up and took off with the fam for some camping fun in Julian. And we really did have fun, except for the 100 degree weather...

The highlight of the trip for the kids was dirt! They got to play in the dirt all day long and only had to get cleaned up a few times! (Oh, and probably ingested a fair amount, too)
"Let me out"!
The best idea we had was to bring along these baby gates. We made them into a corral and put a shade over the top. This is where they spent most of their time, since every time we let Eric out, he ran off to the neighbors' campsite, or went tearing through the bushes, as if he was actually trying to get Poison Oak.

Sarah was the biggest trooper of the weekend. She is about a month away from her due date, and we made her go camping :) Mom brought three reclining camp chairs -- One for each of us preggos, and one for Dad, who's having back issues. Those were life-savers! During the hottest part of the day, you could find Sarah sprawled out on a chair with her feet up, baggies of ice on her body and a battery-powered fan blowing on her face! Eden was the designated "squirter", she had a spray bottle she sprayed us all with to keep us cool.

Sunday we decided to get away from the camp for the hottest part of the day, so we went into town for lunch, walked around the shops, and went on a tour of the gold mine. This was definately a high point. It is always 56 degrees inside the mine! Even if it's snowing outside. We really enjoyed walking through and cooling off!

After the tour, we got to pan for gold.

Eden got a big kick out of that!

Eric made friends with a dog named Buddy who lived at the mine.

Sleeping was a little tricky on this trip. We've taken Eric camping before and he slept just fine, because when he was younger he slept really well with us. Now, not so much. The first night we layed him down in the Pack 'n' Play and he went right to sleep. Then he woke up in the middle of the night and wouldn't go back to sleep, so he tossed and turned with us the rest of the night. By the second night he realized he could climb right out of his bed pretty easily, so that was a big chore. The last night I just sat in the trailer and did some sewing by the lantern til he went to sleep (and retrieved him if he climbed out). This will be a good strategy for when we move him to a big boy bed. Naps didn't really happen unless we were driving somewhere... Oh well, he still had a blast :)

We got Eric a tube of plastic animals in town, because for some reason he was convinced that we were going to see zebras and camels while we were camping. And all the birds were toucans.

Love it, Jenny! You ladies are troopers for camping while prego! And, what a genius idea that baby gate was, I'll have to remember that since my parents have one of those.
